A major setback for Pakistan as Glenn Maxwell and other Australian players may leave the tour early to compete in the IPL 2022.
The IPL 2022, which will feature ten teams and run until the end of May this year, may force Australian stars Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, and Pat Cummins to leave the Pakistan tour early.
The 15th edition of the India Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to begin in the last week of March 2022. The T20 league, on the other hand, will coincide with Australia's upcoming cricket tour of Pakistan, which begins on March 3.
Australian national selector George Bailey has stated that IPL-bound players will be permitted to return home in the middle of the series before flying to India to compete in the mega event.
"For the multi-format guys, striking a balance of where they do get time to physically replenish their energy levels is difficult." Especially for fast bowlers (around), when they have the time to ensure that they are fit, strong, and capable of dealing with the workload. "But that's part of the modern cricketer's life," Bailey said, as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.
The former Australian ODI captain stated that while the players will be handsomely rewarded for their participation in the cash-rich league, they will also be able to learn a lot from the best players in the world.
Scheduled to begin March 3, Australia will play three Tests, three one-day internationals, and one Twenty20 match in Pakistan. On Wednesday, Selector Bailey told reporters that security would be "very, very robust and very, very thorough."
Due to security concerns, Australia has not toured Pakistan since 1998, instead of playing its away matches in the United Arab Emirates. Though some international touring sides have returned to Pakistan in recent years, New Zealand abruptly halted a tour there in September citing security concerns, and England cancelled a planned tour shortly afterwards.
We have so much exciting things this year because two new teams will be added to this year's Indian Premier League. KL Rahul will captain the Lucknow Super Giants, while out-of-favour all-rounder Hardik Pandya will captain the Ahmedabad franchise this year.
